You Need to Learn How To Teach Drums ASAP!

You need to learn how to teach drums! Let me give you 3 good reasons why:

1. You have to learn how to teach yourself.

This goes not only for drumming but how to teach yourself things in life as well. When you’re analyzing someone else’s playing and how to fix technique, grip or rhythm issues, etc. You are really learning how to teach yourself how to get better as a drummer and a teacher in the process!

2. You will be able to give back to others what your previous instructors have taught you.

To teach drums you’ll get used to giving information instead of taking information like you were when you were a student. So naturally, you will be paying forward for the next aspiring musician, and then they will hopefully do the same!

When you were a student, you were given a gift by your teacher, and now as a teacher, you will get the opportunity to give that gift to someone else. You will make the percussion community better as well as yourself from this experience. You will especially help the community when you give back and share the gifts of the positive experiences you have had.

3. Teaching teaches you Empathy

This is something I have recently reflected on and what I mean by this is gaining the skill of leveling with other people and how their experiences are going. Being able to put yourself in another person’s shoes will help with this. Since you once had the same experience as your students, it’s important for you to reflect and remember that while you are teaching.

This could help provide answers as to why a student might be struggling with something such as having negative thoughts etc. Everyone has their own issues that will not be the same yours and it is important to keep this in mind.
